To improve your distance control with your putter, roll balls to the fringe. Rather than putting to the cups on the practice green, which can be difficult on a busy day at the course, putt balls towards the fringe. Start at the fringe and take 3 good strides, approximately 10 feet. Drop three balls and putt towards the fringe, trying to get as close to the edge without hitting it as you can. If you strike the fringe, repeat the drill from the same distance. Next, pace off 5 steps, approximately 15 feet and drop your three balls. Repeat the drill, trying to get as close to the fringe with each ball without hitting the apron. Next attempt 7 steps, or 20 feet. This drill takes your mind off the cup and sinking putts, and helps you concentrate on the proper length stroke to roll the ball 10, 15, and 20 feet.
